Pink and Purple Tutorial from a Ghost……..

Do you hear the crickets? I do! It has been over TWO WEEKS since my last post! I am such a slacker. I am going to have to re-work this blog thing. It’s not as easy to keep up with it as it is to do a video. Writing about EVERY product as well as posting a pic of each one is a challenge, just being honest so I think I am going to concentrate more on my YouTube channel and I will pop in here to talk about a specific product that I like or to talk about my videos or whatever suits my fancy. But I am not dead so don’t count me out!

Anyhoo, I just uploaded a tutorial to YT and it was a PAIN in the neck because it took FOUR tries to get it loaded! The first time the computer powered down in the middle of loading it, the next time my son closed the lap top lid and that stopped the video processing, the third time the Internet browser stopped working, and the fourth time was the charm! WHEW! Maybe there is something to this Friday the 13th stuff.

So let me stop yammering, here is the video:

Brush Cleaning Day…..

It was that time again. When I needed to stop being lazy and really deep clean my brushes. I am such a procrastinator but, now that I do my makeup on camera, I need to be a little more dilligent about keeping them pristine since they are now subject to public scrutiny. I am not really going to tell you how I do it or post a video on it. It’s futile, I have no new info to offer. I am rather going to link to a video that is pretty much the method that I use.  I mean, cleaning your brushes is not rocket science, but it is nice to know how to best remove product from your brushes.

Why clean your brushes? I am so glad you asked! You need to clean your brushes because, like any other beauty tool, they can develop bacteria which can lead to breakouts and all sorts of gnarly things. Secondly, think about your hair. When your hair is dirty and you can tell you have product build-up on your tresses, it just doesn’t perform like it would if it was clean. Most brushes are made of natural animal hair and the same rule applies. Plus it can taint the outcome of your makeup, especially in the case of shadow brushes, if you have colors left over from previous applications.

Now the video that I am posting is for deep cleaning your blushes (like I did today) and you only have to do that about once a week. For everyday cleaning just a little bit of brush cleaner (I use MAC’s) on a paper towel does the trick beautifully.

Here is the link, It’s a video by Marlena from MakeupGeek (LOVE her!):

And here are a few photos of my brushes drying, you can see why I dread doing this, I have quite a few…….

Sephora Ad “Orange Lips” Tutorial

Here is a video of a tutorial I did based on a Sephora “Orange Lips” ad in the latest issue of InStyle magazine. I will also include a photo of the ad itself. In my March Must-Haves post I talked about some orange lip products that I got at Sephora and I thought that I need to do some kind of look with the lips so folks would know how to actually wear orange lips in real life. When I stumbled upon this ad I HAD to recreate it. They did a phenomenal job! Anyhoo, on with the show!

Here is the ad:

And here is my take:

Flirt Cosmetics “Flirtatious” Palette Tutorial and Review

I went to the San Ysidro Las Americas Outlet shopping Center last week and stopped at The Cosmetics Company Outlet to see if they had anything worth getting excited about. They did! I purchased two items: A Flirt Cosmetics “Flirtatious” Palette and a M.A.C. “Solar Riche” Bronzing Powder.

First I’ll talk about the Bronzing powder. It has come out in two different collections, once in the Solar Field Collection and again in the Style Warrior Collection. In each collection the compact it came in was different, here is a photo of the one I picked up:

And open:

I am in love with this color as a blush for me. On a fairer skinned person it is a great bronzer but for me it adds such a peachy warmth to my cheeks, it just makes them glow. It takes a little working up to get the color to show but it’s worth it. Here is a swatch of it on my hand:

Now for the Eyeshadow Palette. I always go straight to the M.A.C. section when I hit up the CCO but since I am blogging about makeup now I need to be open to other brands as well so I did something a little different and actually looked around the store at the other brands they carry! I’m SO glad I did, too, because I found this little gem of a palette for only $10.

Now what won me over is the second shadow from the left. Mind you they all are lovely shades but the second shade is called “Glamorazzi” and it looks EXACTLY like “Trax” from M.A.C. I even took it to the M.A.C. counter and compared them side by side and you could NOT tell the difference between the two. I used to own Trax but I left my M.A.C. 15 shade palette in a hotel room in LA, discovered it too late to retrieve it, and just hadn’t gotten around to replacing that shadow. It’s such a gorgeous color and I am VERY happy to have an identical comparison plus three other pretty shades at less than the price of one M.A.C. shadow. Here it is open:

and on my arm:

They are such pretty, well-pigmented shades and the texture is great. The first shade is called “Peach Champagne”. It is reminiscent of MAC’s “Shroom” but it’s a little warmer. The second shade is “Glamourazzi”. The third shade is “Bronze Splash” and it is almost identical to MAC’s “Amber Lights”, it’s a very pretty dark gold color, not quite bronze in my opinion. The last shadow is “Goody Goody” and, to be honest, I couldn’t find a MAC shade I would compare it with.

Anyhoo, on with the tutorial. Here is the look I came up with and a full product list will be located underneath the photos and video. Hope you like. You can also purchase the palette here at Kohl’s.com.

Everyday look using Urban Decay “Naked” Palette and ONE eyeshadow brush!

Here is an everyday natural look  using my brand new (yay!) Urban Decay “Naked” Palette and only ONE (gasp!) eyeshadow brush, M.A.C.’s #217. I was aked to do this by a friend and I really liked the result. I wanted to only use one brush because I wanted this look to be as no-fuss as possible seeing as how this is probably something that you would do if you were on the go and didn’t have as much time on your hands to get ready or just something you wanted to do first thing in the morning to prepare yourself for the day. I really want to empasize the fact that you can achieve great looks using a minimal amount of products and tools.

I am going to be doing a separate post about the Palette itself and some of the other things I got at Sephora so stay tuned for that. I think I’ve said enough, on with the show! 🙂

M.A.C. Wonder Woman “Valiant” Look

Here is a look I created using the Wonder Woman Palette in “Valiant”. This was my favorite palette of the whole collection. I love green eyeshadows and this one has some really pretty ones, my personal fave being the dark green color called “Diana Undercover”. This would be PERFECT for the impending St. Patty’s Day holiday. It’s very festive. Maybe add a little green glitter liner under the bottom lid for and extra pop. Hmmmm, I might have to try that!

Anyhoo, here is the list of products that I used and the link to the tutorial video (sorry it’s so long, I’m new to this). If you don’t have these exact shadows just use something similar. I hope you enjoy it and, more importantly, I hope you TRY it!
